Baden-Württemberg Certificate for Teaching and Learning at University Level

The “Baden-Württemberg Certificate for Teaching and Learning at University Level” is made up of different modules. It offers a didactic-methodical combination of workshops, practical consulting and classroom observation and is based on international standards with regard to its requirements. The certificate includes three modules, comprising a total of 200 teaching units (AE) of 45 minutes each.

Module II "Teaching and Learning"

A closer look at selected topics

  • face-to-face lectures (in total eight days of continuing education) about minimum four out of seven selected topics

Establishing individual areas of focus

  • Qualification process on individual level

 

Module I "Teaching and Learning"

Basics of teaching and learning at universities (60 AE)

This module will allow you to deepen your understanding of the requirements for teaching and learning at universities, systematically expand and reflect on your didactic-methodological knowledge, and test your didactic competencies in practice.


Module II "Teaching and Learning"

A closer look at selected topics (60 AE)

In module II, you can gain deeper knowledge of the requirements for your specific teaching tasks. You will visit attendance-based classes (a total of eight further education days) selected from four of the seven topics:

  • Teaching and learning under changing conditions
  • Alternative teaching and learning methods
  • Planning and preparing courses
  • Implementing courses
  • Evaluating courses
  • Advising students
  • Testing students

 

Module III "Teaching and Learning"

Establishing individual areas of focus (80 AE)

This module allows you to gain individual teaching competences that set you apart from others. You have the following options:

  • You conduct a course or series of courses of an experimental nature.
  • Within an organisational unit, you work on developing a new or existing curriculum or changing the structural framework for teaching.
  • You prepare a paper on questions resulting from your teaching experiences.
  • You attend further workshops on teaching and learning in higher education (workshops from module II).
  • You visit seminars and conferences discussing teaching and learning in higher education.
  • You prepare a portfolio.
